Fully Equip Your Home Gym With These Essentials
Whether it’s during these trying times or just in general, preparing and setting up a home gym can do wonders for your health! Just think about it: it’s always there for you (morning, noon, or night), you don’t have to drive anywhere to get a workout, and you’ll find your entire performance will enhance.
Do I Have To Get Equipment For My Home Gym?
No, you don’t! If you just want to workout at home, it’s completely possible to do so without equipment. But if you feel like you want to elevate your workouts and progress, it’s a great idea to invest in some equipment to continuously challenge yourself.
Where Do I Get My Home Workout Equipment?
Some of you have asked me what to buy for your home gym, which is why I compiled them all in one, detailed blog post for you.
What equipment do you need to follow my workout programs?
Check out this quick graphic:
Dumbbells
Dumbbells are a great way to add a challenge to any bodyweight exercise. If you’re a beginner you can start with 2 kg and build your way up. Otherwise, choose a weight based on your level of training.
These are my picks for durable, quality dumbbells:
- 2 kg rubber dumbbell
- 3 kg rubber dumbbell
- 4 kg rubber dumbbell
- 5 kg rubber dumbbell (metal not vinyl)
- 6 kg rubber dumbbell
If you’d rather get a full set of dumbbells, check these links out:
- 2,3,5 pound dumbbell set (pound not KG)
- 3,5,8 pound dumbbell set
Resistance Bands
I love workouts that use resistance bands. You can use the bands with your squats, lunges, upper body and core moves too. The best part is you can literally take them with you anywhere you go, yep, they’re perfect for travel & holiday season. Here are my favorite bands:
Yoga Mats
You can’t be lying on the floor for the duration of your workout. Your knees, back and all of your joints will thank you for this one.
- For a durable mat that lasts, go for this: https://amzn.to/2Qkbyix
- If you’re feelin' fancy: https://amzn.to/3baewyn
- This one is great for beginners in yoga: https://amzn.to/2QlejAl
Weight Plates
Take your workouts to the next level with weight plates. I love using the weights overhead in my squats or lunges, they’re also great for ab workouts and you can definitely use them for a challenge with your bicep and triceps.
- Go for either a 5 KG weight plate
- Or a 10 kg weight plate
Buy A Jump Rope
If you don’t have a treadmill in your house, jump rope is a great alternative to get your heart rate up.
Favorite Fitness Gadgets:
If you’ve been watching my instagram stories and videos, you know I love my Apple gear. It’s great to have a tool around that keeps us accountable, makes us take the workouts more seriously, and makes everything more convenient. I use the Apple Watch workout feature to keep track of my workouts, I put the AirPods pro in for the noise cancellation feature, and I use that case to differentiate my AirPods to somebody else's!
Cardio Machines For Your Home Workout
If you’re taking this seriously and want to invest sometime in movement and cardio at home then I really recommend that you go for a cardio based machine too!
